{"id":138,"date":"2017-09-07T11:48:50","date_gmt":"2017-09-07T18:48:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bio.mech.utah.edu\/?page_id=138"},"modified":"2024-12-11T12:40:56","modified_gmt":"2024-12-11T19:40:56","slug":"teachingoutreach","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/bio.mech.utah.edu\/index.php\/teachingoutreach\/","title":{"rendered":"Education\/Outreach"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Teaching:<\/h1>\n<p>At NAU: Fluid Mechanics 1, Applied Mechanics Dynamics, Advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Method (FEM),\u00a0Cardiovascular Fluid Mechanics.<\/p>\n<p>At Utah: Fluid Mechanics, Intermediate Fluid Mechanics, Scientific Machine Learning.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1>Education initiatives:<\/h1>\n<p>As part of our NSF CAREER award, we have started two education programs integrated with our ongoing research:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">1- <\/span><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">FAST (Fluids, Art, and StoryTelling! )\u00a0<\/span> <\/strong>FAST will combine\u00a0 visualization with simple cartoons to create artistic demonstrations of data analysis and fluid flow within a story.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">2- Py4SciComp (Python for scientific computing)<\/span><\/strong> Py4SciComp is an educational effort that attempts to make\u00a0 useful open-source Python-based resources in scientific computing accessible with tutorials, sample codes\/data, and short theoretical lectures. We will focus on FEniCS, PyTorch, and VTK.\u00a0 Py4SciComp is motivated by our NSF OAC funded research projects that develop Python cyberinfrastructure integrating FEniCS (FEM modeling), PyTorch (deep learning), and VTK (data pre\/post-processing).<\/p>\n<h4>FAST (Fluids, Art, and StoryTelling! )<\/h4>\n<p>Please visit the<a href=\"https:\/\/bio.mech.utah.edu\/index.php\/teachingoutreach\/fast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> FAST webpage (click here)<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<h4>Py4SciComp (Python for scientific computing)<\/h4>\n<p>Please visit<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/amir-cardiolab\/Py4SciComp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Py4SciComp&#8217;s Github page<\/a> for a series of tutorials (sample codes, data,\u00a0 and Youtube tutorials). Theoretical lectures supporting the tutorials are also included.<\/p>\n<h1>Open Science Matters!:<\/h1>\n<p>We have created a <strong>comprehensive list of publicly available webinar series in various disciplines<\/strong>\u00a0 (machine learning, fluid\/solid mechanics, computational modeling, biomechanics, applied math, etc.). We enjoy working with the younger generation. Our previous home Flagstaff was the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flagstaffstemcity.com\/\">first STEM community in America<\/a>. The student is working on medical image processing (Summer 2024). Shurik did a fantastic job comparing blood flow CFD simulations based on 2D level set and 3D segmentation methods.
