PhD Students
Hunor got his BSc and MSc from Budapest University of Technology (Hungary) in Mechanical Engineering. He was also an exchange student at University of Naples (Italy) as part of his Masters. He is a PhD student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Utah.
Siva joins us from IIT Kanpur (India) where he got his MS degree. He joins our group with a nice publication record (Physics of Fluids and Physical Review E). He is a PhD student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Utah.
Mahmoud got his BS degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Mansoura University (Egypt). He is a PhD student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Utah.
Alexis is a Mechanical Engineering PhD student. She completed her undergraduate degree at Duquesne University in Biomedical Engineering with minors in Mathematics and Biochemistry. She published multiple papers and presented at multiple leading conferences while working with Dr. Rana Zakerzadeh. During her time in undergrad, she was an active advocate for women in STEM, serving as the president of Duquesne’s Society of Women Engineers chapter. Alexis has received multiple awards including the ARCS (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists) Fellowship at Utah.
Younes is a PhD student in Mechanical Engineering. He obtained his BS and MS from Isfahan University of Technology (Iran) and Harbin Institute of Technology (China), respectively.
Mojgan is a PhD student in Mechanical Engineering. She obtained her MS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology (top engineering school in Iran). She joins our group with a nice publication record.
Masters Students (with thesis)
Bray got his undergrad degree from Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Mechanical Engineering. He is an MSc student in Mechanical Engineering at NAU. He is also a full time employee at W. L. Gore in Flagstaff and has been sponsored by Gore to do his Masters degree in our group (remotely since our group has moved to Utah).
Undergraduate Students
Nathan is an undergraduate student attending the University of Utah in the mechanical engineering department and will be graduating in 2024.
Duc is an undergraduate student in Computer Science. He is working on deep learning and XAI.
Luke is a 4th year undergraduate student in Physics with a computational emphasis. Luke is co-advised with Dr. Pania Newell and is working towards machine learning in porous media.

Steven got his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Utah, under the supervision of Dr. Jeff Weiss. He was a Research Associate in our lab and was co-advised with Dr. Weiss. Followup position: Research Associate at University of Utah.

MohammadReza got his MS degree from University of Tehran. He was a PhD student in Bioengineering at NAU. Followup position: Postdoc Scholar at Barrow Neurological Institute (Phoenix).
Mostafa got his MS degree from Isfahan University of Technology. He was a PhD student in Bioengineering (NAU presidential fellow). He joined our group with a strong publication record in journals such as Journal of Aerosol Science. Followup position: Postdoc Scholar at UCLA-School of Medicine.
Maryam graduated from Azad University in Tehran. She is a PhD student in Mechanical Engineering at Northern Arizona University (co-advised with Dr. Peter Vadasz). Followup position: Senior Engineer at General Motors (Michigan).
Visiting scholar (alumni)
Dr. Xu is a faculty at Jiangsu University (China). He was a visiting scholar in our lab. His research interests include finite/discrete element methods and computational mechanics.
Hao-Ping was a visiting PhD student and was visiting our group from Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He is interested in integrating scientific machine learning in his research on computational manufacturing modeling.

Symon got his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology (India). He was an MS student in Mechanical Engineering. Followup position: PhD student at Stony Brook University.
Ali got his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology (the top Engineering School in Iran). He was an MS student in Mechanical Engineering. Followup position: PhD student at University of Michigan Ann Arbor.
Mohammad was an MS student in Biomedical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano (Italy) and got his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology. He was visiting our lab for one year to do his MS thesis research. He was co-advised with Dr. Alberto Redaelli in Milan. Milad got his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology (the top Engineering School in Iran). He was an MS student in Mechanical Engineering.

Christine Chesney
